Blackmore

Blackmore, named after the rich dark soil which surrounds it, is at heart a collection of ancient buildings built beside the village green and church. St Laurence is Norman although the magnificent timber tower was erected in 1400.

Blackmore - Priory Church of St Laurence Norman, from 1170, with many 12th century features remaining. The wooden bell tower was built c. 1400, and is the largest in Essex. The original medieval timber remains. The tower rises in three stages - unlike any other wooden tower in Essex.
