The Norman window in the north nave wall indicates that this was the original medieval parish church of Old Harlow. It burnt down in 1708 and was rebuilt adding a west tower, During the restoration by Woodyer in 1872-3, this tower was removed and replaced with a central crossing tower, which may have been its original 12th/13th century design. The chancel is late 14th century.
