Finchingfield - St John - Medieval Carving

One of the beasts and people carved around 1350. This seems to be a carving of a man having a laugh! Could it be a self portrait? There's a sense of humour about these little carvings - the craftsman had some unpretentious fun with his designs that still connects with us 600 years later in the po-faced 21st century.
